Literacy Initiative

LLINK pageBig Shoulders Fund Literacy Initiative prepares teachers to implement meaningful literacy instruction that meets the needs of students. Through professional development, coaching, curriculum, and assessment tools provided through the Literacy Initiative, teachers are equipped to help students become exceptional readers, writers, and thinkers for the 21st century and beyond. For more than seven years, Big Shoulders has initiated literacy-focused professional learning communities led by Liz Bartley and supported by author and Big Shoulders Fund Innovation Leader Kristin Ziemke. In order to expand and deepen this work, Big Shoulders has partnered with NQC Literacy, a holistic literacy coaching firm, to support teachers across the network both on-site and virtually, with professional learning tailored to meet the needs of schools and teachers. Together, NQC and Big Shoulders work with teachers to grow mindsets and teaching practices in literacy that impact approximately 1,200 students.
