Lend a Shoulder Day

Save the date to go back to school for a morning and participate in the 2010 Lend a Shoulder Day.  Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 28, 2010.

Every year Big Shoulders provides the opportunity for supporters to go back to school for the day, Lend a Shoulder Day.  Donors, volunteers and directors turn out in large numbers each year to see where their generosity is making a difference.

Visitors participate in activities such as art projects, launching rockets with a high school physics class and reading Corduroy to children.  Schools enjoy the opportunity to have visitors to their schools. They maximize the visitors time with a full schedule of interactive activities to learn about the school and meet students. The day starts at 8:30 am with the school visit.

Then, after a busy morning, it is not on to cafeteria food for Big Shoulders guests. Even better, attendees have the good fortune of being guests of Smith & Wollensky Chicago, who generously donates the luncheon at this historic restaurant.

Guests recount the day at the different schools they each visited and get an update on Big Shoulders from President, Monsignor Kenneth Velo and Executive Director, Joshua Hale.  Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., also attends each year to thank guests for their support of the inner-city Catholic schools.  Big Shoulders supporters continue build momentum to ensure students can continue to have the opportunity to study hard to achieve their dreams.
