2009 Golf Classic

Thanks you to all the sponsors, participants, supporters, attendees, Golf Classic committee and volunteers who helped make last year's 9th Annual Big Shoulders Fund Golf Classic a huge success.  We had our second highest netting event in our 9 year history netting over $518,000 for scholarships.  An incredible feat that will greatly impact and help Big Shoulders to meet the increasing need for scholarships this school year!

Over 300 of Chicago's business and philanthropic leaders spent Monday, August 10, 2009 on the golf course for Big Shoulders Fund's 9th Annual Golf Classic sponsored by the Sage Foundation. It was a fun filled day of golf, course games, raffles, auction, shoot out contests and more!

Some of this year's highlights included a 24-person shootout for a spectacular Rolex watch courtesy of James and Williams Jewelers, a live auction including a week stay at Exclusive Resorts, foursomes at many of the top courses, and  two first-class to anywhere in the world courtesy of United Airlines.

Golf Classic History

The event raises funds for the Friends of Big Shoulders Scholarship which provides scholarships to deserving children who want to study for a brighter future in one of Chicago's inner-city schools.  The continued success is due to a committed and active group of volunteers who comprise the Golf Classic Committee.  In just nine years, the Golf Classic has:

  • raised over $3 million for scholarships for inner-city children to receive a Catholic education;
  • played over 2,300 rounds of golf;
  • provided over $130,000 in raffle prize winnings;
  • allowed more than four thousand children, regardless of background, to have access to quality education; and
  • had over 50 dedicated volunteer committee members both past and present who have given countless hours to ensure the event is a success every year.
